Fanny Eaton

Fanny Eaton. 2025. Pen and ink on paper. 9″x12″.

Jamaican-born model Fanny Eaton embodies the richness and diversity woven into the very foundation of the Pre-Raphaelite movement. Too often dismissed as narrow or niche, Pre-Raphaelitism has, from its beginnings, embraced influences far broader and more diverse than commonly assumed. Although no photographs of Fanny are known to exist, she lives on through the portraits created by artists of the circle. This superb drawing, inspired by Walter Fryer Stocks’s study of her, seeks to honor her legacy — keeping the essence of the original while adding a modern twist. This portrait is both a celebration and a reminder: the vision of the Pre-Raphaelites is not limited to the past. Its potential for global resonance and inclusivity is greater now than ever.
